M.A.C lip liner in Plum and Spice review

Spice:

MAC describes the shade as "Pink Cinnamon Stick". It is warm toned peachy brown shade and is excellent for any nude lipstick or to even out pigmented lips.

It has super creamy easy to glide texture, layers beautifully and evenly without any efforts and feels light weight. It does not tug the lips. However, since the finish is matte, it would emphasize the dryness and settle into fine lines. As for the pigmentation, it layers opaque in two swipes and covers every bit of discoloration on my lips, gives the feel of lipstick and adds nice color to it.

I get some 5 plus hrs of wear with this if worn alone but it feels little dry at times, if I top it with lipstick it extends the wear time by another 3 – 4 hrs depending on finish of the lipstick. If I top it with lipgloss, it stays good for 5 – 6 hrs.

Plum:

MAC describes the shade as a "Potent reddened plum". Now, as you can see from the swatches above, it doesn’t appear reddened plum to me at all, so I have no clue why MAC describes it that way. In my opinion, it appears more of a brownish plum than a purple plum.

Plum being a confusing shade of neither plum, nor mauve nor true brown can be paired with almost any shade of brown, shades of dirty pinks or mauves and with some plum/wine lipsticks too. So, although I wouldn’t call it a real plum colour, the versatility kind of helps in avoiding buying too many lip pencils. But if you are looking for a rich plum shade, then don’t go for this.

As with all MAC lip pencils, it is highly pigmented but the dark brown pigment isn’t my cup of tea. It lasts for hours, 4-5 hours minimum, and applies easily and smoothly, hence, doesn’t drag across lips.

It is super matte and hence makes lips thinner and dry if worn on its own. So, you need to prepare your lips well before application.
