ABN’G started off as a platform for local and international designers in search of an exclusive exhibition/retail space in Cairo, to showcase at. Offering both beautiful and edgy furniture pieces, one of a kind home accessories, pret-a-porter & haute couture fashion items- ABN'G appeals to different tastes and age groups.
Upon entering the two-floored hub, it is noticeable that ABN'G was not designed to become merely a retail showroom, or just another shopping destination in Cairo. In the spirit of promoting their designers and brands, the ABN’G team also hold regular events and exhibits to showcase their latest products. The community based atmosphere, in fact, allows for connoisseurs with a penchant for design and fashion to browse the various boutiques as reference to the latest trends in art, décor and culture.
Additionally, the ABN’G team also offer expert design advice and consultancy when required - taking the customer's shopping experience to the next level. Clients have the exclusive opportunity to visualize their newest acquisitions in their own homes before even buying them.
|The sisters-Aya and Mounaz|
Okhtein in Arabic mean sisters, which explains where the brand name came from, and I got to interview Okhtein- the sisters- exclusively for The Vanity.
First of all, congrats on the launch of your brand. Tell us a little bit about yourselves
We are Mounaz and Aya, two free spirited sisters. We enjoy art and anything that appeals to the eye and feeds the soul. We have a passion for designing and creating art.
Would you please tell us more about Okhtein, and How did it start?
Okhtein is a fashion brand with a concept that aims to create high end modern and unique designs, combining the world of art and fashion. Both of us grew up with the notion of starting something together, it took us years to finally settle on what exactly we wanted to do. Our love for fashion coupled with our passion for art led us to the start of Okhtein.
What inspires you?
Anything can inspire us. There are no limits to our inspirations, we can be intrigued by an unusual object , inspired by history, and moved by things people commonly see but lack to see its true beauty.
What was the first piece you have designed?
The first piece we designed is a clutch that we are still working on. It's going to be a part of future collection, hopefully Spring Summer 2015. We have been working on it for almost a year and we won't release it until we perfect it. But for the first piece out of Fatimid Facades is the dome bag.
Who motivates and supports you?
Our motivators and supporters are our friends and family! We've also been getting encouraging words via emails from strangers which have given us more confidence.
Are your going to design other items, shoes for instance, anytime in the future?
It's definitely a part of our future plans. It requires a lot of preparations and research though.
Are you considering opening your own store?
A fashion rule you never break
Less is more. We love simplicity with a little edge to anything we wear or design.
Favorite icons or celebrity
We love Alexa Chung, her style is incredible.
Olivier Rousteing, Alexander Mcqueen (was and still is truly iconic), as well as Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
The ABN’G showroom is divided into three sections: ‘MOBILYA’, Turkish for furniture; ‘AKCESORIA’, Polish for accessories , ‘MASHGHAL’, Arabic for workshop. In each section the customer will notice that all pieces are one-of-a-kind and possess an impeccable attention to both detailing and quality.
Art, décor, fashion, design and culture are the key players in Cairo's newest design hub and concept showroom . To experience the complete ABN'G lifestyle-be it through their monthly events, exhibitions, design advise, or shopping extravaganzas- the space is open daily from 11 am - 10 pm at 2 Taha Hussein Street, Zamalek.
