The Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology honored Michael Kors with its 2013 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at a benefit luncheon at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, New York City. The award was presented by Hilary Swank.
Also at the luncheon, Kim Nguyen, a third-semester Fashion Design
student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), was named as the first
recipient of the Michael Kors Endowed Scholarship. Kors donated $1 million to
FIT to establish this endowed scholarship, to be awarded annually to a Fashion
Design student who demonstrates exceptional talent in Fashion Design but whose
educational endeavors are limited by financial constraints. All costs
associated with a bachelor’s degree program at FIT, including tuition, housing,
materials, and books, are covered, as is a year of study at FIT’s program in
Milan, Italy, at Politecnico di Milano. The scholarship also provides
mentorship and the opportunity to intern at Michael Kors.
Notable guests included Anna Wintour, Aerin Lauder, Iman, Lily
Aldridge, Doutzen Kroes, Chanel Iman, Alexandra Richards, Patti Hansen,
Nina Arianda and Harley Viera Newton.
